About Us
Make it… and mend it
Makers & Menders was founded by the two of us, Katie and Ian, in order to allow us to make the best use of our creative and practical skills. Katie is the creative, arty one, whilst Ian brings a wealth of experience in practical problem solving and making things work (though he’s more creative than he lets on and Katie is also pretty practical!).
We both share a love of making things from recycled, discarded and unusual materials, and we pride ourselves on creating products that are both useful, and beautiful… in the spirit of William Morris. We want the things we make to be the things you reach for on a daily basis, or else to bring a smile as you catch a glimpse of them, whether that’s a notebook or a portrait of a beloved pet.
It’s important to us that we make as minimal an impact on the environment as possible. We try to use materials that have had a life already, or at the very least are sustainable in their production or in the way they will be disposed of in future. Our packaging is reused where possible, and at the very least recycled, recyclable and/or biodegradable.
Mending has always been second nature as we’re both drawn to vintage and antique things that tell a story through their previous usage, breakage and repairs. From an environmental perspective, we strongly believe it’s important to keep existing objects going as long as possible, so that they can be kept out of landfill and retain their usefulness; equally, it’s lovely to be able to keep things that have sentimental value or family history in good shape so that they can continue to be enjoyed by future generations. To this end, we make our services available to you, and if you have something you need mending, please get in touch using the links below!
